Cooperation between Italy and Niger, personal data protection and fight against cybercrime: a training course for the judiciary in Niger, organised by the Sant’Anna School with the support of the MAECI and the Nigerian Ministry of Justice for magistrates

The cooperation between Italy and Niger is consolidating thanks to the contribution of the Sant'Anna School. Between 24 and 27 May, the fourth training course was carried out online on the subject of personal data protection and the fight against cybercrime. The course, organized by the Sant’Anna School and targeted to 27 magistrates in Niger, was coordinated by Andrea de Guttry, Full Professor of International Law at the Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics, Development) of the Sant'Anna School, and was structured into four days, with lessons held by Italian and local magistrates and professors, including Denise Amram, Data Protection Officer of the Sant'Anna School.

This is the fourth Training Course that the Scuola Sant'Anna organised for the judiciary in Niger, after those that between 2018 and 2020 dealt with topics such as “Training of trainers”, techniques for investigating terrorist crimes, international judicial cooperation. The support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Italian Embassy in Njamey, Niger, has always been decisive.

Niger is a priority for Italian international cooperation and this project, promoted by the MAECI in collaboration with the Nigerian Ministry of Justice and the Niger Magistrate Training School, intends to enhance the skills and competences relating to the protection of personal data and fight against cyber-crime by twenty-seven magistrates. The course aims to strengthen local magistrates' knowledge of the national and international regulatory framework, a fundamental tool for strengthening the rule of law in Niger and for generally improving the fight against international crime.
